Teaching you to use your body the right way

If you’re ready to start learning techniques that will let you age with less pain, I’d love to work with you. This is exactly why I started learning, then teaching Pilates. You will learn to think about what muscles you are using and whether they are the most efficient to get the job done!

As a trained and certified Pilates instructor in business for more than 2 decades, I will help you learn how to use your core muscles through breathing and execution. And I will also help you understand why, not just what, so movement can become more flowing, while efficient, and with less or no pain.

My Story

In the 80s, I started exercising and getting fit. I wanted to ski from top to bottom in the Rockies. I was into cycling, hiking, and did strength and cardio training.

After becoming a certified personal trainer and working with people for years in gyms, rec centers, and homes, I found Pilates. My personal trainer certification had served me well, but when people started talking about Pilates I realized this is how to age with a lot less pain. I found Michael Miller Pilates in Colorado, “Michael Miller Pilates makes sense”.

Everything about Pilates made sense to me. The fact that it incorporated breathing (which I already used in so many of my moves or while stretching) enticed me. And the more I learned, the more I realized this was a natural progression for me. It felt right.

I became a certified Pilates trainer in both mat and equipment. I taught in recreation centers, other studios and in private homes. I helped set up a Pilates mat program in the Colorado State University Rec Center, as well as trained students to become Mat Pilates trainers as well.

I have since moved to Michigan where I opened my own Pilates and fitness studio, then to North Carolina, where I continue to help clients by visiting their homes and guide them how to workout there with what they already have: equipment, stairs, etc. I teach them to do at home what we focus on in the studio. Some have an exercise ball or a piece of equipment and some don’t, but you don’t need thousands of dollars in equipment to get a good workout and use your Pilates principles, and core. I show them how to incorporate Pilates techniques and practice into their lives. I help people learn how to incorporate smaller, underused muscles, while disengaging larger, overused muscles so bodies become stronger and better balanced.

I also work with clients digitally, via FaceTime or Zoom, but I prefer at least 1 face-to-face session for me to see how you move. It’s important for me to support you and train you every step of the way. Bad habits and wrong moves can mean injury. My techniques and training programs are designed to keep you focused and asking yourself, “Which muscles am I using?” And then, “Which muscles am I supposed to be using?”
