I can meet you where you are

Why core strength and alignment are so important

Do you do a lot of laundry? Shoveling? Bending or lifting? I want to know — because you don’t move exactly like anyone else. Supporting your life and the way you move is a critical piece of Pilates training.

I discover your interests, hobbies and work environment, so I can customize the exercises to movements you already do. Why? If you use your body more efficiently, you’ll become stronger.

You can strengthen your muscles by paying more attention to how you use them during a “normal” day. I can teach you how to move and breathe better, so when it’s time to exert yourself, you’ll be more ready than ever. You won’t hurt yourself — and you will surprise yourself.

One of my favorite exercises is the one that happens between the ears. Thinking about your body several times a day will help you understand which muscles you’re habitually using that may be causing current pain, imbalance, and possibly a hint of fear (because you dare not move a certain way).

It is so important to understand what’s happening in your mind as you move. My clients will tell you the way they ascend a staircase is nothing like the way they used to do it before I took the time to show them (and watch them) go up and down a flight of stairs.

Thinking about which muscles to engage, your posture, your alignment, and yes, breathing can keep unnecessary weight off of your knees and hips. How you move, sit and stand can help you avoid muscle strains, sprains or worse.

Millions of people around the globe have been driving to the gym for a hard, sweaty workout for decades. Few consider how they are moving, lifting and breathing during seemingly mundane, daily activities. I help you understand how what you learn with me positively affects all your activities.

You might think I’m a little crazy at first, but I try to understand what you are thinking when you do different movements. You’d be surprised by what’s rattling around in your head as you bend into the dryer or approach a heavy-ish item to lift.

Whether you are an athlete or somewhat sedentary, young or old, have had joint replacements or vertebrae fusions, I try to learn where you are starting from, and move forward to attain YOUR goals (not mine). Current and former clients of mine have benefited from the way I train, including:

  • Retirees who are active hikers, bikers, boaters, and golfers
  • Nail Technicians and CPA’s who spend 8-plus hours sitting, working at a desk or in a chair, leaning over people
  • Mountain bike riders who want stronger hips and core
  • Equestrians (dressage and English style)

I can teach you why “core strength” and alignment are so important (not simply buzzwords), how your understanding of your core strength is just as important as the genuine strength of it, and how core strength will help prevent injuries, keeping your joints and muscles healthy throughout your life.

If you’d like to talk to me about what I do and how I’ve helped clients in their teens, 20s and all the way into their 70s, and how I can help you, please check out my website and contact me.
